➤MBA or PGDM ....which one to choose ???

The eternal search is On. After graduation, management degree is still a grand-mother's favourite (Ooops!!👿👿) but what is the right choice ?

An MBA or PGDM!!! A quick insight for budding professionals...

What is the difference ?

MBA is a degree while PGDM/PGDBM is a diploma.

How does it matter ?

MBA can be awarded by Universities. PGDBM is traditionally given by recognised Institutes.

Is MBA better or vice-versa ?

What you learn during your studies is paramount. The skills you acquire will help you in social, personal and professional life. It is not a paper degree. 

Which has more value ?

It does not matter, by what name you call this qualification.If you check the market, you will find that diploma pass-outs from IIMs  get exorbitantly higher compensation compared to ordinary University degrees.

Which will improve my job prospects ?

Employers generally do not care about the nature of reward. If you have better skills, attitude and abilities, you will get a cutting edge over others.

Long term pay package ?

Degree will help you in getting to the interview board. Future salary and growth will be decided by what you contribute for the company.

So, What should I do ?

Depends !!! You must consider the ability to pay fees, time you can devote for studies, city of your choice and mode of studies (Full time, Part time etc...). Ultimately, people will not remember your award or your percentage. They will value you for your contribution in real sense.

BTW, grand-mother's favourite does not mean...she studied it. 😅😅😅

➤If you love your job, you need not work at all

Just listen to your heart when choosing a job. It cannot be wrong. There is a difference in Spending your life and Living your life. Likewise, Doing a job and Enjoying your work, are two different states.

Have a look at these people. They are simply ecstatic about whatever they are doing. Are you ??

5 mistakes people make while choosing a job –

1)  All friends are opting for this

It is an easy trap for you when you do not get the right guidance. People of your age have the similar level of intelligence, give and take a few degrees. You can have their opinion but must not blindly follow them.

You tend to ignore your skills and competencies and dissatisfaction creeps in as you go along. Do not buy others’ mistakes. God does not make crap…you are different and unique.

2)  This has more opportunities in market

There are job CRAZES in the market and a specific profession may be more in demand at a point of time. Listen, there may be less jobs in the job of your passion but how many jobs do you need, after-all? Just – ONE. 

If you market yourself properly, a progressive employer will even CREATE a position for you, even if there is no vacancy.

3)  Must get this minimum salary in any job

Businesses run on commercial principles. You may not decide your first salary but next paycheck is in your hands. Employer will always PAY you less than what you GIVE him in worth. 

So, you give worth 80000/- and he will compensate you 50000/-. And if you work for 4000/- he will not pay you even 4001/-. Simple mathematics. Your call !!!

4)  Company has big name

Big name does not mean big money. You ideas will have more value in a small enterprise or a start-up. Grow and rise with them. The chances of you, getting lost in the crowd, is more in a giant organization. 

Moreover, in a small company, you will get a chance to do multi-tasking which will you votary of skills for future jobs.

5)   I do not like this city

In the initial years of your career, go to any and every city. A ship is safest in the harbour but that was not the reason, ship was made. Get out of your comfort zone. Meet interesting people and see novel places. 

As you grow, you will have more stories to tell. Stories attract people and people make you successful.

So, what story are you going to tell your children and grand-children ???

2. As an economist rightly said, we are happy when we spwnd money. So, please review if the job will give you enough time to spend this money at right place with right people.
3. There should be Pride in what you do, irrespective of where you do. Identify if you will have this P in your job.

➤Dream you must but do not keep sleeping !!!

Rahul looked at his wife as soon as they landed at Switzerland Airport and said " Remember dear ! I always used to dream of this place but was never sure. And see, we are here today". His dreams became reality and he had to pinch his wrist to check the status. Was it a coincidence or  do dreams have the innate POWER to be realized ???

1. Dreaming is a natural phenomenon

You must have heard people saying...Dream Big. And you always wonder....How? We wish it is as simple as saying it.

As kids we always think dreaming as an activity associated with sleeping. We tell fascinating descriptions of our previous night dreams to our parents. Yes...the nightmares also share our beds. When we get up scared, mothers are more frightened than us. Hugs and pecks follow to reinforce that everything is fine.

Of course different cultures view the occurrences of dreams in diverse meanings.

2. It is difficult to understand mind

Brain is being studied by scientists and philosophers alike for more than 2500 years. While medical science is starting to getting the brain anatomy and functions in a bit more clearer sense, the mind is still a mystery to both. People are always curious to know the interpretations of their dreams but there is no science which can help you out. Dreaming and their linkages to ambitions is still an uncharted territory to most.

Primarily, there are two usages of Dream. One is "a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep". This is something you do not have control over. When it comes to life and success, we are talkng about the second meaning , which is "a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal."

3. You find opportunities to realise your dreams

"I just began to crave for something different" says Jennifer Smith who turned her dream into reality. She always wanted to be a horse coach. When she got a 9 to 5 job in book publishing she felt uncomfortable. Not to be daunted, she volunteered to be an assistant where horses help people with disabilities. "I felt like I was speaking directly to me" says Jennifer. When the girl smiled at her minor victories, other children in the wheelchair cheered her. And that was the turning point. She decided to spend her saturdays there onwards. You make time for things that matter, she announces proudly.

                                           

I often hear people say that I have a dream to do this or do that. But I do not know how to start. Yes, the key is "to start". Once you start things start falling in its place.

4. Dreams take you towards your destination

I am reminded of three friends who used to discuss their dreams at the age of 18. One wanted to settle in a foreign country. He always had a rosy picture of western lifestyle. Second had a great passion for his own country, family roots and rich culture. Third intended to enjoy foreign country for some time, return and the settle down in his own native place. All THREE had same qualifications, similar family backgrounds and identical opportunities. 35 years fast forward, I need not tell you, where they are now. Exactly, where they WANTED despite obstacles and/or environment.

5. So, how do we get what we want...

Look at this girl.

My stake is....just remember your dream, pursue it relentlessly and keep hope. It is sure to happen.
